Satellite Hotel (Colorado Springs, USA)

Handy for restaurants and shops, this is a good place to lay your head without worrying about the cost. The price is very reasonable.

The room is a good size; so too is the bathroom. Shower pressure is impressively good, *but not the height of the shower itself.  The bed is comfortable enough. There’s a good sized balcony. The view is less impressive but, sometimes, you have to make concessions.

The price is good and if you’re willing to forgo some of the usual hotel features, then you’ll get a kick out of the experience of staying here. Rooms are comfortable and unlike many more modern hotels, everything seems to work. Additional positive points include  a very popular pool; members of staff are very welcoming and breakfast is good. Choices change daily and the coffee is good quality. Alternatively, there’s a refrigerator and microwave in the room and lots of shops nearby, so self-catering is an easy option.

It’s a condo and hotel combined so all the rooms let to short-stay guests don’t have those longer stay condo views. Instead, you’ll be overlooking the car parking lot.

There are kids running around all over the place. There are nearly as many of them as there are of mosquitos. Kids don’t fit in here though; not in this ‘one foot in the grave’ type setting.

The entrance, stairs and corridors are stark and uninviting ... and every balcony seems to have a BBQ grill. There’s a constant smell of air and carpet freshener. Once, though, you’ve got over the ‘time-warp’ effect of this complicated complex, you may even enjoy it … in some peculiar way.
