About Hotel Mont Rosa
This straightforward hotel in a seven-storey building enjoys a prime location directly opposite Calella's beautiful sandy beach. As well as its enviable setting, Hotel Mont Rosa can add sweeping views and an outdoor pool to its list of visitor-friendly features.
Unpretentious guest rooms with tile floors are characterised by whitewashed walls and carved wood headboards. Flat-screen televisions and work desks are also standard features, as are balconies overlooking the Med.
Visitors can soak up some rays on the sundeck and wind down in a modest guest lounge-cum-TV room. Safety deposit boxes are available at the 24-hour reception. There's also a lift, and Wi-Fi is accessible throughout for an additional fee.
Guests can dine in a casual, buffet-style restaurant, and enjoy a sundowner or two in the laid-back bar
Hotel Mont Rosa is an 11-minute walk from Calella's landmark lighthouse, and a 15-minute stroll from the train station. Marineland Cataluña, a family friendly water park with waterslides and dolphin shows, is a 20-minute drive away.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Good budget option
The term “you get what you pay for” came up a couple of times. Guests weren't being insulting, but saying that the hotel offered relatively basic accommodation right on the beach at what they considered a very decent rate. Most felt they received very good value.
positive:
Great location opposite the beach
While there was a railway line, which could be crossed only at certain locations, between the hotel and the beach, the beach was certainly very close. This proximity was perhaps what guests most enjoyed about their stay at Mont-Rosa.
positive:
Day trip to Barcelona
A couple of guests pointed out that the railway station was pretty close, and that it was even possible to catch a train into Barcelona for a day trip, if they had had enough of Calella.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Poor view from back facing rooms
While many of the front facing rooms do have terrific sea views, guests caution that the hotel also has many rear facing rooms that they describe as having courtyard views over drainage pipes. Those allocated these rooms wanted to spend as little as possible time in them.
negative:
No tea or coffee making facilities
This hotel does not seem to attract many British visitors. Perhaps as a consequence, there are no tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms. Some guests mentioned that this made their life very difficult, since simply getting themselves a hot beverage turned into something of a mission.
negative:
Very basic and dated rooms
While some accepted these two issues, since the room-rates were relatively low, not all were as forgiving. Some said that the hotel was really looking tired and dated, and that it seemed the owners were pushing too hard to extract every ounce out of it before renovating.
