Guesthouse The Ancient Unicorn (Barnard Castle, United Kingdom)
About The Ancient Unicorn
We purchased the Ancient Unicorn early in 2015 and set about renovating the bar, restaurant, letting rooms and restoring the historic building and it’s character. The building is steeped in history with Charles Dickens staying there and basing some of his writing on the local area, to Turner stay to paint in the area as well. It is rumored from local stories that the building is haunted by two local lovers who died locally. Now the building will give you a warm welcome whether you are popping in to meet friends for a coffee in our vintage coffee shop; or dining with us in the bar by the cosy fire for a traditional bar meal or use our restaurant; or breaking your journey on the A66 for a rest, or staying for a break in our 12 refurbished rooms or just sampling a pint from our cask ales on a evening out.
