Lord Elgin boasts a perfect location in the heart of downtown Ottawa, close to many sights and attractions. Guests say the hotel is ideally located for exploring the city on foot. A visit to Rideau Canal is highly recommended, especially during the winter, where there is ice skating.

The hotel personnel at Lord Elgin are friendly, helpful, and accommodating. If you run into any problems, they will try to resolve it in an efficient manner. If you need suggestions on where to go or how to get there, don't hesitate to ask, as the staff is very knowledgeable about the area.

Though the property is well-kept, several guests thought renovations are necessary as some guest rooms, bathrooms, and various hotel facilities have begun to show their age. The decor is dated and the rooms need cosmetic touch ups. Guests also thought the fitness room and the pool area could use an update.

Though most guests didn't have a complaint, some did mention that rooms near the elevator can be noisy and the air conditioned can be too loud to sleep with. If you're a light sleeper, you may want to bring a pair of earplugs as a precaution, and request a quiet room ahead of time.

Housekeeping is not always consistent and several guests reported their rooms not being vry clean at check in and not well maintained during their stay. Most guest had no complains, however.
