Hotel Tybee is a 4-star hotel found just 100 feet from an Atlantic Ocean beach on Tybee Island, and 18 miles from the attractions of historic Savannah, Georgia. The hotel dates back to 1889, has two outdoor pools and a pool-side Tiki bar, ocean views, and is a few minutes’ walk from the Tybee Beach Pier and Pavilion, as well as the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. All rooms have en-suites with organic toiletries, flat-screen TVs with HD channels, free Wi-Fi, a private balcony, fridge, microwave, and tea/coffee maker. The hotel’s reception is open 24/7, offering a safety deposit box, and there is a business center, free self parking and a gift shop. Hotel Tybee was found to have an enviable position for Tybee Island; very close to the beach, within a short walk of restaurants, shopping and the pier, and also a manageable drive away from Savannah.
Guests said the staff members were helpful, friendly and willing to go out of their way to make them feel welcome.
Those who stayed considered the rooms to be comfy, with nice beds and handy mini-fridges and microwaves, while the remodeled areas were thought to look particularly good.
The hotel was said by some to be in need of updating, especially the bathrooms which were occasionally reported to be in poor condition and sometimes harboring mold. However, renovations appeared to be underway at time of writing in mid-late 2015, thanks to new management.
Some Tybee guests thought the hotel to be a bit expensive considering the need for renovation, and also since not all rooms had the nice ocean views guests were hoping for, but others noted that the high price was understandable given the beach location.
Although this may change, there was no restaurant on site at the time of writing due to the new management — something which was disappointing to a fair few people.
