The Regency Hotel is situated within a renovated Victorian Town House. It offers function rooms and also serves as a wedding venue. Rooms are decorated in an elegant style and come complete with flat screen televisions, free Wi-Fi and facilities to make tea and coffee. The Regency Hotel runs regular themed events such as Murder Mystery Dinners, Jazz, Blues, Soul and Caribbean nights. There are two restaurants attached to the hotel. The Town House offers traditional A la Carte dishes created using seasonal ingredients. Langtry’s serves more hearty food in a more informal setting. Special dietary needs are also catered for. The National Space Centre is fifteen minutes away and Abbey Park is right beside the centre. New Walk Museum is a ten-minute drive or half hour walk.
The free parking available for hotel guests is appreciated. There are ample spaces and the hotel is just off the A6, meaning guests can leave the motorway and immediately find somewhere to safely leave their car with no extra charge attached.
There is a choice of English breakfast or continental style options, such as fruit, cereal. However the full English cooked breakfast is hearty, generous, filling and sets you up for the day.
The reception staff are smiling and friendly and ensure that guests feel welcome. The bar staff too are open and add to the relaxed atmosphere in the bar area.
This hotel won’t suit those wanting modern, clean lines and all mod cons. It is a characterful, old building and that means it has some quirks. For some this added to its charm, others felt it was simply old fashioned. Most feel it is suitable to stay in for a night or two, but not longer.
Many found their rooms to be rather tired and old with broken fixtures and fittings. Showers are unreliable with water pressure, there is a lack of electrical sockets.
