Positive Reviews
positive:
Excellent food all round
Again and again guests mentioned how fantastic the food at Mahons was. They were extremely impressed. It didn't matter if it was the fairly standard cooked breakfast, or a more elaborate creation for dinner. They said it all tasted great and was well presented by friendly and attentive staff.
positive:
Very welcoming and friendly staff
Guests describe the staff as truly exceptional. They did, of course, extend the usual welcome, but guests felt that they went far beyond that. Some mention how the staff would remember them from previous years, and were generally lovely to deal with.
positive:
Rooms are very spacious
Going on the number of guest comments, it seems that most rooms at Mahons are indeed spacious, not just a select few. Guests certainly never felt boxed in.
Negative Reviews
negative:
The infernal town clock
Though not mentioned all that often, the town clock did annoy and disturb a few. While in the day this was very charming, the night time was a different matter. Town residents of course get used to the bells ringing out the passage of time, but hotel guests do not have enough time to become acclimatised and found that they could disturb their sleep.
negative:
Could do with a little updating
While not mentioned often, a few guests did say that the rooms really could do with an update. Nothing major was required, in their eyes, just a little spruce up and things would be a great deal better.
negative:
Mid-week a bit quiet
A couple of guests staying during the working week said that it was very quiet at the hotel. This may suit some, but certainly not all. They would have liked the live music and camaraderie of the bars and lounges that exist at the weekend.
