Hotel Sportsman (Bardolino, Italy)

Many guests found that this hotel, tucked right up on Italy's famous Lake Garda, was well-situated for exploring the rest of the region. A cycle/footpath runs right past this property and on a nice day, many found that they could stroll or cycle quite easily between Bardolino and Garda. While the ferries that leave from Garda serve the wider lake region, guests were impressed by the extensive bus system here, which made visiting towns like Verona a breeze.

The team at this hotel - especially the waiting and reception staff - are the talk of this lakeside property. The maître d' in particular here is the frequent recipient of high praise, with guests mentioning her by name in their reviews. Not only is she a warm and efficient hostess, but to the delight of guests, she evidently boasts an impressive knowledge of local wines.

A number commented that both the rooms and bathrooms here are spacious. Also, many were pleased to find that both this hotel's beach and pool area boast ample sun loungers.

Spacious they may be, but the rooms here fall down in the style stakes. Visitors commented that the décor was distinctly dated.

Additionally, a number of guests noted that the pillows were oddly hard and very uncomfortable.

While the morning offerings are good, a number of visitors - particularly those on longer stays - would have liked to have seen a wider variety of breakfast options.
