Front desk team is very courteous and helpful
It’s fair to say that the guys and gals who work on the Red Roof Inn Merrillville’s front desk do a mighty fine job of ensuring its hospitality standards remain suitably high. If they can help then they will. Seriously impressive.
positive:
Great property for dog lovers
As well as forgoing any fees for bringing a pet with you, this hotel also provides free poop bags for four-legged companions and has a decent amount of green space nearby designated for canine exercise.
positive:
Great location for shopping and eating
With more restaurants and bars nearby than you’re likely to get through in a month, and a superb mall (Westfield Southlake) just on the other side of the freeway; you can be sure you’ll not want for much when it comes to dining, drinking and shopping during your stay.

Accommodations need some TLC
Numerous disappointed guests have commented on the unkempt and untidy state of the rooms they stayed in at this hotel. Stained carpets, grubby bathrooms and unclean sleeping areas (i.e. junk left under the bed) were the most common concerns.
negative:
Beware the hidden charges!
Be sure to check the small print at the bottom of your booking terms and conditions before you complete your transaction: this hotel charges guests a nightly fee for the use of the in-room safe, regardless of whether they choose to use it or not!
negative:
Some parking issues
There is a sign by the hotel entrance that clearly states no semis or trucks are allowed to park in the lot. Despite this, it is not uncommon to find several semis and/or trucks parked by the side of the parking bays, an arrangement which, quite unsurprisingly, can make parking a quite a hassle for car drivers. Not cool.
