Hotel Le PROVENCAL (Villefranche sur Mer, France)

Those with sea-facing rooms were treated to outstanding views of the nearby bay from their balconies. For many, this hotel was worth booking just for the Mediterranean vista alone.

The rooms here may be basic, but guests were very impressed by the housekeeping standards. Units are cleaned daily and even better, sheets and towels are changed once a day too. The latter are large and fluffy, an unexpected treat in a no-frills property.

Many found the pastel exterior of this hotel to be very attractive, noting that the pink and stucco detailing is very much in keeping with the Mediterranean surrounds. Inside, guests were pleased to find a helpful team, with the reception staff being particularly noteworthy for their friendly attitude. Visitors were happy to find that the train station is within walking distance while the glitz and glamour of Nice and Monaco is just a short car ride away.

A number of guests felt that their rooms bore no resemblance to those featured on this hotel's website. Namely, visitors were somewhat shocked to find old, tired interiors, with the bathrooms being a particular disappointment. Here, cramped showers and loud pipes only added to the disappointment.

This property's lift also received some negative comments. Size is an issue here, with many guests commenting that the lift is surprisingly small and struggled to accommodate more than a handful of persons and their luggage at the same time.

This property can only be accessed by an uphill walk. While not a problem for some, a number of elderly guests struggled with the route.
