Situated in a commanding position overlooking the Mediterranean, and only 600 yards from the beach, the Jose Cruz Hotel offers guests cosy accommodation in a small boutique property. The 16 rooms all have private balconies or terraces, some with spectacular sea views, and feature en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, satellite TV’s and telephones. The reception is staffed 24 hours a day and can assist with tours, transfers, car rental and even piano lessons. There is a small pool deck with sparkling pool and chic sun beds. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. A buffet breakfast, and later in the day drinks and snacks, are available on-site. The hotel also operates a renowned restaurant right on nearby Burriana Beach which specialises in hearty Spanish fare. The nearby Burriana Beach is perhaps the main local attraction, and is jut a few minutes walk from Jose Cruz. Malaga and its airport are just over 40 miles to the west.
While not exactly raving about it, guests did have good things to say about the breakfast. They described it as a Spanish incarnation of the continental breakfast, but quite varied. It seemed to set them up for the day.
The overwhelming majority of guests mentioned that the staff were almost all lovely. They where described as friendly and very helpful, always trying to meet guests expectations.
This really depended on which room a guest was in. Some of the rooms have great sea views from expansive terraces, and of course the guests staying in them were exceptionally happy with the view. Guests in rooms lower down, or facing the back, were somewhat less happy.
While most guests did not have a big problem with this, they did mention that there were a lot of steps. Not just in the hotel, but in the neighbourhood as well. It was quite a trek up many steps to return to the hotel from the beach. Guests with any sort of mobility issue will have a very hard time indeed.
There is no on-site parking, and guests mention that, because of the hilly location and narrow streets, parking can be unreliable in the immediate area. Motorists will need to plan carefully and might have to park at a garage some distance away and take cabs to and fro.
While the guests certainly appreciated having the pool, especially after a hot day on the beach, many felt that it was just too small to actually function as a pool. To them it was more like a big hot tub with cooler water.
